Talmage took a week or two to warm up to the kindergarten scene, but now talks about kids by name, enjoys his centers, and likes playing sea monsters at recess. He is in Miss Thacker’s morning class. This is her first year teaching after serving a mission, graduating from BYU, and student teaching in our school in the 2nd grade. She is very nice and stays in good contact with e via e-mail. (Talmage thinks she’s pretty and drew a picture of her with long ‘yellow’ hair.) Talmage gets good accademic marks, but is working on not inturrupting teacher with random stories and tidbits. He likes having play dates with a boy who is in our carpool and our ward. Go Talmage. Love you buddy.

Yellowstone Vacation

This summer we took the fam and Grandma Trish on a little vacation to Yellowstone Park. A few highlights: lots of bison and other wildlife, staying overnight in some little cabins near Canyon Lodge, shopping, museums, losing Grandma Trish and hanging out at Artist Point while Daddy looked for her, walking some trails, picking a souvenir at the gift shop, having a birthday party for Grandma Trish at Old Faithful Lodge (complete with ice cream cones), seeing paint pots and geysers, splashing around in Boiling River, and lots of family time in the van without a movie running.

Molly didn’t nap well in the van like we had hoped, and was pretty exhausted by the end of day two. Also, Clara’s little legs got pretty tired on one of our hikes. Brooklyn and Talmage were a little impatient in the van, but once they realized that we were going to walk a lot and be in the van a lot, they and the little girls ‘jumped in’ and enjoyed the sites and experiences of Yellowstone. It was great having Grandma Trish there for company and to help with kiddos. They were all such troopers. Nic got to take a few pictures and even conquered Uncle Tom’s trail with all of it’s stairs! One of my favorite moments was when a tour bus of elderly people stopped to take pictures of the kids and I as we made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and ate them (while we waited for Daddy to find Grandma Trish). I felt kind of like a monkey in a zoo, but the kids loved the attention of being asked their names and how they liked Yellowstone so far.

Here are a few pics.

Friends came for a water party.

This is the second year that Brooklyn decided she wanted a ‘Make-Your-Own-Sandwich Party.’ It’s her party…right?!

Complete with treasure hunt. Aunt Anna wrote the clues – so fun (they were even in verse!).

Here is Molly with her treasure hunt prizes and wearing a pair of flip-flops (on the wrong feet) that she kept stealing from one of Brooklyn’s friends :)

Brooklyn with her Grandma Nomino – when all of the decorating was done, I think they ended up with 21 candles!

Grandpa Buck, Uncle Mike, and Aunt Kris all came that evening for dinner and to celebrate Brookie’s big day. Brooklyn says she likes having ‘B’ foods on her birthday: We had Blueberry muffins, Baccon, Borange juice (?!), Brazilian food, and Brownies :)

Super-Wifey to the Rescue!

We bought an Inteligel bed with our tax return a couple of years ago and have loved it! (The pillows are excellent too.) To our dismay, the gel lattice layer started breaking away from the outer edge of foam, leaving a crater on Nic’s side of the bed. While I’m usually up for a good snuggle, I definately like my space when it’s time to actually sleep. Something had to be done so Nic could sleep comfortably on his side of the bed without taking over my side. Nic checked it out and found that the store we bought it from went out of business. Another company took on their warranties, but only if the bed was purchased after a certain date, which ours wasn’t.

Super-Wifey to the the rescue! I unpicked the edge of the matress, re-glued the gel layer (I can’t believe it was only held by what seemed to be similar to hot glue!), and sewed it to the foam around the edge. After stitching it back up, it is as good as new! Now I have my side of the bed back and Nic can get a good night’s sleep too :)

Bedtime Piggy-Back Rides

The kids look forward to having Daddy give them a piggy-back ride to their beds after we have a song, scripture, and family prayer each night. It got to the point that Brooklyn and Talmage would start inching toward him during the prayer and then tackle him just as we finished, trying to get the first ride. In efforts to help prayer be a bit more reverent, we said they needed to count to 10 before hopping on…they can count to 10 really fast – it didn’t help much with the reverence. Taking them at the same time didn’t turn out to be much of a solution either. So, since Brooklyn gets even days and Talmage gets odd days sitting next to Daddy at the dinner table, we thought we’d try giving the person who didn’t get to sit by him at dinner the first piggy-back ride that night. Sigh - it’s working for now :)

When Talmage rides on Nic’s shoulders, he calls it a ‘shoulder-back ride.’ Molly calls piggy-back rides ‘pig rides.’ Love these kiddos!

F&E Campout

My dad and his bros are all about the acronyms. When we were younger, they used to have an F&S (father and son) campout and an F&D (father and daughter) campout each year. As we got older, got married, had kids, etc. the F&D campout fizzled out and the F&E (father and everyone) campout was introdued. We look forward to it every year.

We enjoyed gourmet dutch oven, grilled, and smoked food. The company was excellent: cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents! (Our kids get better and better at sleeping in a tent each time.) This camp site was in Malad – quite lovely. Here are some pics.

Molly tipped over in her chair and hit her left cheek on the bench of one of the picnic tables. She cried at first, but not as much as when I tried to put ice on it! What a trooper. This is a picture of her black eye.

I love running this race in Springville. Lots of people from my ward and neighborhood also join the fun. The cost is only $8! This time I got an especially good deal, because in addition to the standard T-shirt, I also won in the raffle drawing! – $20 Itunes gift card, a cooler, and some sports drink powder. Yay!

I was 6-7 weeks alon in my pregnancy for this race. My time was just okay. I finished 661/2029, with a time of 31:08. My goal was to get under 30 min – I’ll just have to roll that goal over to next year’s race :)

This is me after the race with my visiting teacher Kim and my work-out buddy Mindy.

I got this recipe from my friend. It is fabulous and stays squishy for months if sealed up in a ziplock baggy.

Plain Old Playdough

 Ingredients:

 1 cup flour

1 cup water

1/2 cup salt

1 TBS cream of tartar

1 TBS oil

food coloring

 Directions:

■Heat all ingredients in a saucepan, slow to medium heat. Stir continuously. Once dough is at the consistency you want, remove from heat. Cool before using. *high salt content so please keep playdough away from pets.
