Our First Johnson Family Camping Trip
We’ve taken our kids camping before, but this is the first time we’ve gone with just our little family. I knew we would forget things that we just took for granted when we’ve gone camping with Nic or my families in the past…and we did forget things. We didn’t bring paper towels, a broom, stuff to wash dishes, extra propane for the lantern, and probably other stuff that I’ve forgotten that we forgot. We even forgot our pillows and had to wad up extra blankets for the night!
I wasn’t thinking so when we were trying to get the yay-hoos to sleep that night, or when I kept waking up in the night (uncomfortable without a pillow, waking up to nurse Molly and to help Brooklyn get a drink, and because our air mattress was partially deflated and Nic and I kept rolling to the middle), but I think it turned out to be a wonderful experience.
Some highlights were: Trying to get a fire to light with the not-so-great wood we bought at the gas station on our way out. (Dad came out victorious in the end.) Throwing rocks in the nearby river. Going for a hike. Posing for pictures on rocks, logs, and a lizard bench. Roasting marshmallows (after dinner Friday night and after breakfast Saturday morning!). Postponing breakfast for a few minutes to run for shelter during a short morning rain shower. Riding in Daddy’s truck. Having a full moon and not needing a flashlight for the night-time wake-ups.

It was at Diamond campground up Spanish Fork Canyon about 5 miles. Close to home but some decent camping wilderness.
What a fun adventure! The kids will remember what a fun family camp out it was for years to come.
